December 7th 2021: Writing Everday

Writing prompt for the day:

Write about the best joke you've ever heard and why it was funny.

Jack cracked the joke beautifully. Slowly the smiles rippled around the table, hands covered mouths as the laugh crept up to the corners of their eyes. Crack. The laughter bubbled uproariously around the table. People wiped the tears from their eyes. One girl was already in the choking-to-death stage of laughing. All, except for one wide brown-eyed girl who sat with an impassive face and a raised eyebrow.

She nudged her neighbour who was rapidly progressing to the silent spasms stage, "What's the joke?"

He goggled at her for one long minute as the rest of the table chuckled at Jack's uproariously funny joke. Suddenly he came back to life and began incoherently to tell the rest of the table what he called the second biggest joke of the evening.

The noise around the table died for one second. All eyes turned on the wide brown-eyed girl with the impassive face. She looked back at them still impassive and oblivious.

The second joke of the night cracked again. It rippled across the table, leaving the table's occupants in various stages of spasmodic laughter. The tears and the dying attempts to explain what the joke was circled around and across the table. The girl wondered if she should crack a polite "hehe". But she just couldn't, she just didn't get the joke.
